The cloud surrounding Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder continues to swirl.
The latest report indicates several NFL owners are preparing to vote to force Snyder to relinquish ownership of the newly-named Washington franchise.
On The Team 980 in D.C., host Reese Waters said this latest development shouldn’t come as a surprise.
“If you don’t know Dan Snyder by now, then you’ll never ever know him,” he said. “I don’t know what it was that you didn’t understand but I tried, many times, to communicate to you the kind of owner that I am.”
A pretty strong majority of the owners, three-fourths, would have to vote in the affirmative in order for the process to begin. But Waters said the number of owners in favor of getting Snyder out won’t be that large.
“When it’s all said and done, 31 owners are gonna claim after the fact they voted for Dan Snyder’s ouster, and he’ll actually get like 10 votes,” he said. “That’s basically how this is going to go. That’s where I’m at with it.”
One listener suggested that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would likely be the biggest hurdle for other owners to get past, as it seems every season the one game the Commanders and Cowboys meet FedEx Field is overrun with Cowboys fans.
Waters understood that logic, but said in a larger sense, keeping the Commanders weak does nothing to help the rest of the league.
“I can see it helping Jerry. I don’t think it really helps Stan Kroenke,” Waters said. “I don’t think it’s really helping Woody Johnson and them. I don’t see it helping Shad Khan. I think they’re all helped by us being a legitimate stand-up, actually big boy pants run franchise.”
