There was a new voice in the Maryland football radio booth last Saturday as the Terps opened their season at home against Texas. Former running back, LaMont Jordan, who filled-in as an analyst late last season, officially became a full-time member of the Maryland football radio team.
“I bring a unique perspective,” Jordan, told the Washington Post. “I’m going to talk about some details of why plays work, why plays didn’t work. I’m there to give my expertise, [from] my three years of high school football, my four years of college football and my nine years of NFL football. I know how huge this responsibility is. There’s always some nerves, just like there was before a game [as a player], but that’s expected. I’m excited about it.”
Jordan joined Maryland play-by-play voice Johnny Holliday and replacing the announcer’s longtime partner in the booth, Tim Strachan. Strachan stepped down from the Maryland football analyst position after working alongside Holliday for 22 years.
Jordan played for Maryland from 1997-2000, setting records as a running back at the school prior to being selected by the New York Jets in the second round of the NFL draft. Jordan’s media experience included working for local news Channel 7 and Channel 8 prior to getting his first opportunity in the radio booth late last season.
“I think the biggest thing for me is making sure that I can pronounce these guys’ names,” Jordan added.
I’m used to watching the game from the sidelines. There are some details that I can see from the sidelines that I can’t necessarily see from the booth. Outside of that, I’m there to talk football.”
Jordan’s first game as the Terps full-time analyst ended in a 34-29 victory for Maryland. The Terrapins go on the road to play Bowling Green for their second contest on September 8th.
