Mets Move Radio Broadcasts to WCBS

As previously reported last month, the New York Mets officially announced they will have a new radio home beginning in the 2019 season, moving from the iHeartMedia owned WOR 710 to Entercom’s WCBS 880.  The move was announced by WCBS 880’s sister station WFAN during their morning show Boomer & Gio.

“We’re pleased to be the new radio home of the Mets,” said Susan Larkin, Entercom’s regional president and market manager in a press release. “We remain committed to bringing our listeners and partners the most exciting sports content from their hometown teams, especially in the New York metropolitan area, where we will be the radio home for both Major League Baseball clubs beginning in 2019.”

The new broadcast agreement with Entercom will see WCBS serve as the flagship radio home of the New York Mets through the 2025 baseball season.  The partnership includes all spring training, regular season and playoff games, as well as Spanish broadcast rights.

“We are excited to join the Entercom family, and look forward to leveraging the power of their portfolio of stations in the nation’s largest market,” said Lou DePaoli,  executive vice president of the Mets. “This new partnership allows us to continue delivering outstanding radio broadcasts to our passionate fan base, while also reaching a wide audience via cross promotions on all of Entercom’s New York stations.”

Prior to making the move to WOR five years ago, Mets games were heard on WFAN, while WCBS held the Yankees rights. In 2014 WFAN prioritized the Yankees and began serving as their flagship, while also straining their relationship with the Mets.  The new partnership means the Mets and Yankees radio broadcasts will both be controlled by Entercom which should end the five-year drought of the Mets preventing their players and personnel from appearing on WFAN.
