After being dismissed from iHeartMedia in Houston for budgetary reasons, Josh Innes recorded a podcast, similar to after getting pushed out in Philadelphia, providing insight on his firing from Houston’s SportsTalk 790.
The 44-minute podcast featured Innes along with his fiancé and on-air contributor, Jill Osterman where Josh insisted he doesn’t know what radio market could be next for them. Immediately after being fired from Philadelphia’s WIP in 2016, Innes had a good idea that a return to Houston was possible, but currently, there’s nothing in the works for the controversial radio host.
Although his second stint in Houston was short-lived, lasting less than two years in morning drive, Innes made it clear he didn’t believe his show was a failed experiment at KBME.
“I don’t view it as a failure, I view it as relatively successful, is it what we wanted to be? No, but it’s not like we were down here and all the other sports stations were up there, we passed them up for three quarters last year in morning drive.”

“I appreciate them for giving us that opportunity,” Josh said of iHeartMedia. “I’m not going to sit here today and dump on anybody, they gave us an opportunity, it was what it was, I don’t view it as a failure.” While Josh and Jilly agreed the firing was “quick and painless,” Innes seemed most upset about the chairs he left in his former studio.
“What irks me the most is that I bought two new chairs for that damn studio and people’s asses are going to be comfortable in my chairs,” Innes joked while recording his podcast, admittedly doing so in his underwear, a benefit of not having to go into work.
His radio stops are rarely without controversy. Josh is a polarizing personality and without him to shake up a market there’s less for people to yell about, whether it’s with disdain or support. “The market gets more boring without me in it, and people miss that,” said Innes.
The free agent radio host posted one episode of The Josh Innes Show podcast since leaving Sports Talk 790, but said he plans to regularly produce digital content while searching for his next opportunity.
