Since departing WEEI last fall, Kirk Minihane has continued to record a podcast, Enough About Me on Entercom’s Radio.com. The plan was for Minihane to have a daily show on the digital platform, but more than six months have passed and the controversial Boston radio host is tired of waiting.
Twice last year, the former Kirk & Callahan co-host stepped away from his WEEI morning show for mental health reasons, with the final time coming in September. Last November, it was announced that Minihane would not return to WEEI, instead launching a daily show, podcast and column, exclusive to Entercom’s Radio.com.
“I want the Kirk Minihane network on Radio.com, where it’s my show, my podcast, other podcasts, other shows for 24 hours a day, that’s it,” the radio host said last week from a Barnes and Noble while broadcasting on Periscope.
“You’ve got one month Radio.com people, Entercom people, to make that happen, or I’m going to pursue things legally and leave,” Minihane added. Since being separated from the WEEI morning show, Kirk has continued to be paid in full by Entercom, while recording his long-form interview podcast, Enough About Me.
While Minihane has been releasing Enough About Me more than once a week on average, he still has not received or agreed to a start date for the daily Radio.com show that Entercom announced last November.
“I’m the best radio personality in America and I’m sitting around waiting and doing a podcast at Mix 104.1 when the public access show is over, we’re done doing that now,” Minihane said from Barnes and Noble. “There will be no podcast, there will be no nothing until I get what I want, which is my own network on Radio.com. I don’t want to be on Radio.com Sports, I don’t want to be on after Seth Payne, I don’t want to be on after all this stuff, I’m done.”
For an unfiltered radio host like Minihane, he has no desire to continue the process of recording a podcast, sending it to management for approval and have it posted days later.
“I don’t want to be sitting on the bench, but I think they tried to bench me on purpose, I think they tried to silence me, I think we’re done doing that. I’m not just going to take a lot of money to sit around and be silenced, I actually bought their act for a while and I think given my mental health, given my situation especially this time of year where I am really struggling, I think its borderline shameful that they’ve acted this way,” Kirk said.
Minihane made his declaration last Thursday and has not released a podcast since. During his Periscope broadcast, the former WEEI radio host said he still plans to post some of his own content while attempting to sort things out with Entercom.
