The Kansas City Chiefs announced a new broadcast partnership with KSHB-TV 41, and sister station KMCI-TV, 38, both owned by The E.W. Scripps Company.
Under the agreement, all Chiefs preseason games will air on channel 41, with their Insider show airing on both networks. KHSB/KCMI will become the official TV home of the Chiefs on September 21st, taking over for their previous broadcast partner, CBS affiliate KCTV-5
“The KSHB/KMCI team is thrilled to be the new ‘Home of the Chiefs’ for the next six years,” said Ed Fernandez, vice president of operations for The E.W. Scripps Company. “We’re proud to partner with such an iconic brand to provide avid Kansas City Chiefs fans with great content and additional opportunities across all of our broadcast and digital platforms.”
While the local NBC affiliate KSHB is the new home of the Chiefs, being an AFC team means most of their regular season games will air on their previous broadcast partner, CBS affiliate KCTV-5. As an NBC affiliate, KSHB will only carry the Chiefs during their regular season games scheduled for Sunday Night Football.
Under the new partnership, the Hy-Vee Chiefs Insider will now air Saturdays at 6:30pm on KSHB-41, Saturdays at 10:30pm on KMCI-38 and Sundays at 10:30am on KSHB-41. The broadcast agreement also allows KSHB/KMCI to gain additional marketing opportunities at Arrowhead Stadium.
“This is an exciting time in Kansas City as the club enters its 60th season, and expectations are high throughout Chiefs Kingdom for the 2019 season,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. “We are thrilled to begin our new partnership with KSHB and KMCI at this time, and we look forward to next year when they will begin serving as the flagship station of our Chiefs Preseason Television Network.”
The broadcast partnership between the Chiefs, KSHB and KMCI which begins this Saturday, will last through the 2024 NFL season.
