Prior to Sunday’s Patriots game against the Jets, CBS Sports reporter, Dana Jacobson asked Bill Belichick about the Antonio Brown saga. Jacobson asked the question viewers wanted to hear and Belichick gave the answer everyone expected to receive.
“I think I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask, what was the final straw with Antonio Brown?” Jacobson said near the end of the interview. To which Belichick responded, “yea, we’re focused on the Jets today.” Jacobson thanked the Patriots coach, a pleasantry that was met with silence.
On Monday, a large portion of the sports media industry was angered by Belichick’s reaction to the question, believing his blank stare was an attempt at intimidating the reporter. There was, however, one person in the media that didn’t take issue with Belichick’s reaction and that was the other person involved in the exchange, Dana Jacobson.
“I did my job yesterday. Coach did his. End of story,” Jacobson wrote on Twitter. “You know what I didn’t like? Rambling through the start of my Ty Law interview. Wish I could do that over. Social media and sports radio can continue the discussion.. I’m going to go get ready for my wedding Saturday.”
Jacobson has been a high-profile media personality for decades, having been both a reporter and host on television and radio. Much of the industry ran to her defense after Belichick chose not to mutter a thank you, but someone as established as Jacobson didn’t need the support because she wasn’t rattled.
The real story is that Jacobson’s fiancé forgot they were getting married this Saturday.
Jacobson and Sean Grande announced their engagement last October. Grande has been the radio play-by-play voice of the Boston Celtics since 2002.
