WNYC Studios has appointed Kenya Young, who comes over from NPR, to a newly created position as the company’s new Senior VP of WNYC Studios, which is part of New York Public Radio.

As Senior Vice President, Young will oversee the strategic direction for WNYC Studios’ portfolio of podcasts. Furthermore, she will lead and support the teams developing and producing shows.

“Kenya is an extraordinary talent of incredible range and the perfect leader for WNYC Studios,” Andrew Golis, Chief Content Officer, WNYC, said per Radio Ink. 

“She is passionate about the possibilities and craft of audio journalism, and she is ambitious about the mission of public radio and the unique role WNYC Studios holds on the podcast landscape. We’re excited for her to continue her innovative work by supporting and growing our ongoing shows and developing new projects and talents.”

Young comes over from NPR, where she spent 14 years and held positions such as Managing Editor for Collaborative Journalism at NPR. She helped grow and support the company’s collaborative journalism by cultivating relationships and also helped run NPR’s day-to-day news operations.

“I have been a huge fan of WNYC Studios podcasts for a long time – the legacy titles like Radiolab and On The Media and the innovative, edgy creations including Death, Sex and Money, and La Brega,” Young said.

The hot topic around news media outlets continues to be the future of Roe v. Wade after a leaked draft opinion showed the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn the law. 

In Tuesday’s edition of “The Howard Stern Show,” host Howard Stern stated that if women are forced to have a baby, then it should be obligated that the men should also be pushed to take care of the child.

“This is what the Supreme Court becomes,” Stern said, per Mediaite. “This is what Republicans become. Nazi, Taliban, no matter what you call them. This decision is pure evil.”

“Our men should be told that if they get their girlfriend pregnant, they will be responsible for child support if she can’t get an abortion. That will change some opinions real fast.”

Furthermore, Stern went on to say that he missed the old Republican party. The group that didn’t want to meddle in the private lives of the citizens but instead is now going rogue with religious views. 

“I wish the Republicans would go back to being old school Republicans, where they didn’t want to invade your private life,” Stern said. “They’ve gone rogue and completely unhinged and latched on to the religious right agenda.”

“They cut school funding, they cut welfare, they cut social services, but they want to give you more unwanted children. There’s no money to take care of these unwanted children, and they’re a mess.”

ABC News has a new vice president of audio as it has announced the promotion of Liz Alesse to the position. Alesse will manage the entire audio business in her new role with the company, including ABC News Radio, podcasts, and entertainment content service.   

“Liz is already a trusted member of the ABC Audio team, most recently serving as director and executive producer of Podcast Programming,” Reena Mehta, ABC News senior vice president of streaming and digital content, said in a statement. 

“She has been instrumental in growing and re-organizing our award-winning podcast team, developing successful content and monetization strategies, and partnering closely within the news division and across The Walt Disney Company to promote our work.”

Alesse has overseen the launches of new podcasts for ABC News, such as “Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson,” “Close Up,” and “The Book Case with Kate and Charlie Gibson.”

Furthermore, she also took the lead in creating the “GMA” Channel on Apple Podcasts, which carries the new “Good Morning America” podcast and ABC Audio’s expanding library of lifestyle, culture, and entertainment on-demand audio content.

With Alesse having a pivotal role in the audio department, ABC News has received Webby Awards, a Gracie Award, GLAAD Special Recognition honors, and other honors.   

“I am so proud of ABC News’ legacy in the audio and radio space. In this new role, Liz will be vital in leading the division to continued success,” Mehta concluded.
