Paramount+ Pulls the Plug on 60 Minutes Streaming Spinoff

The company is talking with 60 Minutes+ employees, who were notified of the decision, about potential positions across CBS

After one season since its launch in March 2021, ViacomCBS’ Paramount+ has determined to cancel the 60 Minutes streaming spinoff, 60 Minutes+.

“We are proud of the team at 60 Minutes+ and of the stories they produced, which informed the audience about some of the most important issues of our time,” Paramount+ said in a statement.

“Their journalism was recognized with several awards, including a Gracie, National Headliner, and NABJ Salute to Excellence Award. The excellent work that has been done by the 60+ team will continue to be on Paramount+.”

The company is talking with 60 Minutes+ employees, who were notified of the decision, about potential positions across CBS, and intend on finding a home for content already filmed across CBS News platforms.

Pulling the plug on 60 minutes+ is a hit to CBS News who wants to get a new generation of consumers interested in the iconic 60 Minutes brand. The on-air staff of “60 Minutes+” consisted of Seth Doane, Wesley Lowery, Enrique Acevedo, and Laurie Segall.

Company That Rates News Reliability Ready to Make Profit

In 2021, NewsGuard more than doubled its revenue in 2021 versus the year due to the licensing agreements with advertisers and other companies that use its ratings.

NewsGuard, a four-year-old startup company that checks the web and rates the reliability of the information provided sources, states it’s trustworthy enough to turn a profit, per CNN.

In 2021, NewsGuard more than doubled its revenue in 2021 versus the year due to the licensing agreements with advertisers and other companies that use its ratings.

“To the degree that we can empower people with more information about which sources are trustworthy and to the degree that we can help advertisers stop subsidizing misinformation on the internet, we think we can make a real contribution to the news environment and to increasing trust in sources that deserve trust,” co-CEO Gordon Crovitz said.

The company is now growing into new regions, such as rating individual television shows and new markets, including Canada. 

“We think it’s important that we did this as a for-profit business that can be viable, that doesn’t have to depend on, you know, the kindness of strangers,” co-CEO Steven Brill said. “My own view is that that’s the path that journalism needs to take — to figure out business models that work.”

Poppy Harlow to Host “Boss Files” Series on CNN+

Harlow’s series focuses on the most prominent names in business and the tales behind their route to success.

CNN continues to add content to its upcoming streaming platform CNN+, which will debut in the spring. The latest program coming to the digital outlet is a series hosted by CNN Newsroom anchor Poppy Harlow called “Boss Files.”

“What does it take to be the boss? Harlow will get the answers in this eight-episode series,” the statement said. “Sit in on intimate conversations and confessions from today’s most influential leaders and learn how personal and professional struggles helped them get to where they are now. 

Harlow’s series focuses on the most prominent names in business and the tales behind their route to success. She’s interviewed various names on CNN’s platform, including Warren Buffett, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Bill Gates, etc. 

The CNN anchor is currently pursuing a one-year Master of Studies in Law at Yale Law School. It’s a program designed for people who are not lawyers but want to acquaint themselves with legal studies and apply understanding of the law to their regular day jobs. 

Harlow began the program back in August and is expected to return to CNN full-time in the spring, reuniting with Jim Sciutto on the 9-11 a.m. weekday edition of Newsroom.

Doctors Want a Covid Misinformation Tag on Joe Rogan’s Podcast

The “Open Letter to Spotify” comes from Rogan’s interview with Dr. Robert Malone, as they called out the podcaster for having someone compare pandemic policies to that of the Holocaust.

Members of the medical and scientific community are coming after podcaster Joe Rogan. 

Two hundred and seventy “scientists, medical professionals, professors, and science communicators” request Spotify add a misinformation policy to “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

The “Open Letter to Spotify” comes from Rogan’s interview with Dr. Robert Malone, as they called out the podcaster for having someone compare pandemic policies to that of the Holocaust. 

“By allowing the propagation of false and societally harmful assertions, Spotify is enabling its hosted media to damage public trust in scientific research and sow doubt in the credibility of data-driven guidance offered by medical professionals,” the letter states. 

“Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Joe Rogan has repeatedly spread misleading and false claims on his podcast, provoking distrust in science and medicine. He has discouraged vaccination in young people and children, incorrectly claimed that mRNA vaccines are ‘gene therapy,’ promoted off-label use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19 (contrary to FDA warnings), and spread a number of unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.”

YouTube removed Rogan’s interview with Malone, and Twitter suspended Malone’s account earlier this month for violating the social media outlet’s policy for posting Covid-19 misinformation.
