Red Apple Media talk WABC New York (770) is putting together a show that pins two different people regarding political views.
WABC’s Curtis Sliwa, a Republican who ran an unsuccessful bid for mayor, will be joined by Anthony Weiner, the scandal-plagued former New York congressman. The two-hour program will kick off this Saturday, Feb. 12, from 2-4 pm.
“People are entitled to a second chance. He is trying to get his life back,” Sliwa told the New York Post’s Page Six.
“We don’t want to just exile these people. We want to give them redemption, but they have to earn their way back. I think being on the radio, he can become a role model for other people who have had major issues in their life.”
Weiner’s political career was sidelined due to several sexting scandals, including a 21-month sentence in federal prison for transferring obscene material to a minor.
“There have been a lot of opportunities for me to process a lot of stuff. A lot of time has passed. I don’t think I would be going on the radio if I didn’t think Curtis or listeners would ask tough questions,” Weiner said.
“I am not going back into public life; I am doing a radio show with a friend of mine. It’s not a conscious decision… I have a face for radio, but I don’t know if I have a place in radio as a career. Sometimes it is what it is.”
Weiner also commented on the pushback he will see from some New Yorkers and those outside the city for taking part in the radio show, considering his past.
“I’m not really involved in that world anymore,” Weiner revealed. “I’m constantly concerned about issues of mental health and keeping myself on the beam and being a good father to my son and things like that. You develop a thick skin when you have been in politics and served time in prison.”
The show pins “The Left vs. The Right,” which will concentrate on issues affecting New York City and gives equal time for both hosts to offer a conservative and a liberal point of view.
