Black News Channel launched in early 2020, and after roughly two years on the air, the network ceased operations. The Los Angeles Times reports that the company is shutting down the Tallahassee, Fla.-based outlet as soon as Friday.

The network failed to meet payroll on Friday, a day after telling employees that paychecks would be delayed. With BNC planning to cease its operations, it will put 230 employees, a vast majority of whom are people of color, out of work.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is a majority stakeholder in the company, and he was no longer willing to invest further. The channel has been shopped to some media companies, but no taker as of now.

BNC’s failure to meet payroll and the announcement of the channel ceasing operations shocked and angered the remaining employees, considering many left established news organizations to join the company believing in its message to provide news to a diverse audience.

However, the network has struggled to find an audience. Also, it didn’t help that company also had to deal with a class-action discrimination lawsuit filed by former and current female employees.

The claim alleged that the women who worked at BNC were being paid less than their male colleagues and that managers grumbled that they were “insufficiently feminine.”

A representative for Black News Channel declined to comment on the story in the LA Times

NBC News has hired former CNN staffer Ryan Nobles as its Capitol Hill correspondent. Nobles spent the last eight years at CNN covering Washington D.C. politics.

According to Deadline, Ken Strickland, NBC News Washington D.C. bureau chief announced the hiring in an internal memo.

“It’s an exciting time to welcome Ryan, as we enter the final midterms sprint and prepare to cover a new Congress in just a few months,” the memo stated.

In a tweet Monday, Nobles thanked his CNN colleagues and acknowledged the opportunity to report on so many important stories.

“It was truly an honor to work with some of the best in the business at such a crucial time,” the tweet read.

Meanwhile, Noble will begin his tenure a little more than two months away from the critical midterm election.

“Many of our Washington colleagues know Ryan well — he’s been a staple at CNN, where he worked for eight years both on and off the Hill covering some of the biggest political stories of the decade,” Strickland said.

“We already have one of the best reporting teams in the business on the Hill, led by Garrett, our Senior Capitol Hill Correspondent, along with Ali, Allie, and a terrific lineup of digital reporters and producers,” he added. “I’m confident Ryan will strengthen that operation even further and hope you’ll join me in welcoming him to the team.”

Former President Donald Trump has reportedly filed a massive defamation lawsuit against CNN. According to The New York Post, the suit seeks $475 million in punitive damages.

Trump alleges that the network used its influence to defeat him politically. He also alleges that CNN has ramped up its attacks on him in recent months out of fear that he will run again in 2024.

Trump is facing a multitude of legal challenges including a criminal investigation from the U.S. Justice Department for his allegedly concealing classified documents.

In August, federal agents raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence looking for any evidence related to the case. Last month, New York State Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against Trump and some of his children accusing them of lying to banks and insurers over the value of his assets.

“As a part of its concerted effort to tilt the political balance to the left, CNN has tried to taint the Plaintiff with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler,’” the lawsuit claims.

A Congressional committee is currently investigating Trump’s alleged role in the Jan 6 Capitol riots.

“How about in the year 2022 we stop playing down, minimizing, whitewashing people who literally say or do fascist things?”

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan took aim at the “quote unquote liberal media” for its lack of criticism of new Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her ties to fascism.

The Mehdi Hasan Show host began Sunday’s show by defending a recent tweet discussing Meloni’s victory in Italy’s election, and the problematic nature of some of her comments.

He mentioned he expected Republicans to embrace the new Italian Prime Minister, saying they are “at best, to quote the President, semi-fascist themselves”.

Hasan continued by saying “what has been so depressing, is just how much of the quote unquote liberal media — the mainstream media — are giving her a pass or playing down her and her party’s fascist roots, focusing more on the fact that she is female, and less on the fact that she is a fascist. That has been deeply, deeply depressing to see.”

He concluded by equating headlines from The Washington Post and The New York Times, among others, to those surrounding the 2020 election that said Donald Trump wouldn’t participate in a coup attempt.

“Look, I have a humble suggestion for many of my colleagues in the quote unquote liberal media,” Hasan said while he ended his monologue. “How about in the year 2022 we stop playing down, minimizing, whitewashing people who literally say or do fascist things? People who want to overturn elections and ban Muslims. People who, as in the case of Italy’s next Prime Minister, spout great replacement theory, while running a political party that has a direct connection back to Benito Mussolini himself? Can we try doing that? Please?”
