Those who thought the dust had settled in Tampa Bay following the return of Tom Brady for one more season were surprised late Wednesday when news broke that head coach Bruce Arians would be stepping down and taking a front office role. Todd Bowles was announced as the new Buccaneers head coach.
On The Pat McAfee Show Thursday, Pat McAfee and co-host Boston Connor talked about how the move seemed driven by Brady. They pointed to the fact that Brady’s father had been vocal in the past about how his son and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not get along.
“We’ll just have to deal with the conspiracy thing for another week or two about, you know, it feels like this is maybe a decision Tom made whenever he decided to come back,” McAfee said. “But I don’t know if that’s true, and I don’t know if we’ll ever know if that’s true.”
Connor said the world needs to hear from Tom Brady Sr.
“Get him on the mic, and we need to hear from him now more than we ever have,” he said. “Cause every other time he spoke, no one really gave a shit.”
McAfee asked if anyone could imagine Brady’s dad coming out and saying his son would only come back if Arians wasn’t the coach. That would ultimately lead to the quarterback clarifying that his dad’s thoughts don’t represent his views on the matter.
Still, it would not be a shock to learn that Brady helped fuel the change in some way.
